Legendary Scottish artist Jack Vettriano has died aged 73

Scottish painter Jack Vettriano has been found dead at his apartment in Nice, in the south of France, his publicist said.

Vettriano, who was born Jack Hoggan on November 17, 1951, in Methil, Fife, was found on Saturday, the publicist said. It is understood there are no suspicious circumstances around the 73-year-old’s death.

Vettriano was one of Scotland's best-known painters, and was famous for his naturalistic and whimsical oil paintings focussing on people in 1920s and 1950s attire.

The artist, who famously got up at 5.15am every day to paint, was behind masterpiece The Singing Butler which shows a couple dancing on a beach while a butler holds an umbrella over them.
