I often say that the left-hand piano is “half the band”. In rock n roll music it acts like the drummer and the bass player in one. I learned this from Jeffery Gutcheon who wrote the amazing “Improvising Rock Piano”. This out-of-print masterpiece reminded me that the piano is a percussive instrument and should be used as such - perfect for playing boogie woogie and straight eight note styles.
