July on OperaVision

Like some holidaymakers, OperaVision travels from North to South in July. We start the month in Ireland with two Queens; one Catholic and Scottish, one Protestant and English. Irish National Opera’s Maria Stuarda promises timely insights into what happens when larger imperial states encroach on their smaller neighbours. Next to Lille for Like flesh, an acclaimed new opera by Sivan Eldar about our relationship with each other and the environment. Then to Geneva for Turandot, where Daniel Kramer’s new staging transposes an old fairy tale to a futuristic world with a state-of-the-art immersive staging. Final stop in Rome for Ernani with a luxuriant cast - Angela Meade, Francesco Meli, Evgeny Stavinsky and Ludovic Tézier - as sumptuous as the costumes of Hugo de Anna’s period production.
