Born in 1987, Jacopo Ceccarelli is born in Ciociaro, but has lived in different parts of Italy, in China and in the United States. JAGO is an extraordinary artist who uses sculpture, one of the oldest forms of art, as an expressive language, making it contemporary. His sculptures are not ends in themselves but become real performances, thanks to the digital world, which JAGO knows how to exploit very well.
But before talking about his most famous works, where to see them and deepen his communication (which is an integral part of his artistic project), let's start from his beginnings.
Indeed, JAGO had his first solo exhibition in 2016, but already at the age of 24 he had been selected to participate in the 54th edition of the Venice Biennale with his bust of Benedict XVI. In 2016 this sculpture was revived to transform into Habemus Hominem, which has become one of his most iconic works. Then follows an exhibition in New York, the city where he chooses to move and work on his Veiled Son, inspired by Sanmartino's Veiled Christ.
His career then took off and in 2019 JAGO was the first artist to send a sculpture made entirely of marble to a space station, in collaboration with the European Space Agency. The sculpture was First Baby and returned to earth in 2020. To date it has created around 10 solo exhibitions, participated in 11 group exhibitions, created 5 performances and won 6 awards.
