Saint-Paul-de-Vence! Jacquemus presents its collection for Spring/Summer 2024 at the Fondation Maeght, near Nice. The show is called Les Sculptures and takes its inspiration from this mecca of modern art in the south of France, where works by Giacometti stand alongside those by Miró, Braque, Bergman and Calder.
Jacquemus fashion shows are pure pop culture, with guests including Julia Roberts, Kylie Jenner, drag queen The Symone, Lena Mahfouf and Lenie and Djebril from Star Academy. They all meet in the gardens of the Foundation and play the statue game: which is your favourite statue of all time?
Meanwhile, backstage, the models are concentrating on remembering the path they will have to take on the catwalk. Not so easy: they have to cross several intersecting rooms, and even pass through the outside of the building. But even more complicated: they have to stay focused and not look at the magnificent works of art they pass on their way.
The show begins, Gigi Hadid opens. The collection is pure and structural. Round shoulders, Giacometesque draping. Simon Porte Jacquemus's bourgeois references blend with the sculptures presented in the foundation. The jumper worn over the shoulders by Alain Delon and Cindy Crawford on the designer's moodboard becomes rigid around the arms of the models.
Jacquem's surreality joins the party. Heels on heels. And belts that widen trousers. It is a 5-star cast: Amelia Gray, Angelina Kendall, Deva Cassel, Emily Ratajkowski, Imaan Hammam, Ruben Moreira, Mamuor Majeng! And the highlight of the show: a wedding dress moulded directly onto the model to close the show. The audience gasped.
