Capturing rain or snow falling in your image is a great way to add some visual interest and character to your images. However, it's easy to question why you can't see it in your images even though you can see it with your eyes.

The shutter speed plays the most significant role in how your falling rain and snow images turn out. A faster shutter speed helps to freeze the falling precipitation in your image. With a shutter speed that is too slow, quick falling snow or rain will appear invisible to your images.

Shoot for 1/250 or faster if possible. If the snow is falling heavily and slowly, you may be able to open the shutter a bit longer to capture motion blur, but this won't work with fast-falling precipitation.

Hope that helps you out this winter!
