How to do a drum solo in Jazz music. In this video, I shared some of the exercises that I use when I'm working on my soloing in jazz context. I found that these exercises are pretty good building blocks to help you started finding your own sound when it comes to drum solo in jazz. Drum solo in jazz is an art form by itself ( check out great artist like Max Roach, Philly Joe Jones, Tony Williams, etc ). Why? because you need to keep the time, the groove ( the SWING ! ) while building an interesting and coherent narrative of musical statement and also, last but not least, being aware of where you are in term of the form of the song. So it goes way beyond just putting together jazz lick A + lick B or playing different rudiments , flamacue after a 11 stroke rolls etc. So I hope you guys find this video useful and see you in the next video !
