Tech Tip Tuesday: Internal Dampening Ring. Part 2
.
.
.
After last week’s experiment with the Big Fat Snare Drum 13” Eclipse Ring in the snare drum, I had to experiment with this beautiful 14” x 10” Sonor Super Champion 9-ply beech rack tom-tom.
Most of the time, dampening is applied to the batter side drum head as needed.
There are other occasions where dampening is applied on the resonant side of a drum as well.
Rarely though, do you see any dampening applied to the inside of a drum, right? You never see that! The entire point of dampening is to control a drum’s sound. Then, when done with that dampening, be able to take that dampening off quickly and efficiently.
After my experience with the snare drum, I had to try it with a tom-tom. The result was so much different than the snare drum.
Unlike the snare drum, the rack tom didn’t feel choked or restricted. Instead, it felt more controlled and focused while still allowing the fundamental tone of the drum to ring true with every hit.
Sooooooo, What do you guys think? What do you think of the dampening inside of the rack tom? Did you like the sound this dampening idea created? Leave a comment. Let’s talk about it!
Love you, guys!! Okay. Byeeeee. ????????????????❤️????????
