Fernando Botero’s life was unbelievable.
He went from bullfighting school at 12 to getting expelled for defending Picasso, to selling his first painting for two pesos… and losing the money on the way home.
He studied the Old Masters in Europe, survived personal tragedy, and even had his sculptures bombed in Colombia. Through it all, he called himself “the most Colombian of the Colombian artists.”
Botero didn’t paint fat people — he painted volume.
