Eternal Spiral, the first major museum exhibition of artist James Jean in China, will be unveiled at Modern Art Museum Shanghai from November 12th, 2022 to February 12th, 2023. The exhibition is curated by Robin Peckham, featuring nearly 100 works, presenting the artist's over 20-year art career, including large scale paintings, large scale sculptures, animations, prints, sketches and color studies. MingJun Lu will be the academic supervisor of the show.
The exhibition covers three floors of the exhibition hall in Modern Art Museum Shanghai, with more than 200 pieces of works, 5 latest paintings from 2022 will be revealed for the first time, 3 large scale paintings will be exhibited in China for the first time, 6 large scale sculptures will be presented, multiple prints including movie posters of 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' and 'The Shape of Water' will be displayed, materials from the artist’s sketchbooks from the early years of the artist's painting career, as well as materials drawn from sketches and color studies of his creative works will be exhibited, which enable audiences to delve into the artist's creative process and witness the steps of each masterpiece's completion, as well as the art forms that painting can extend. 5 large scale animations will allow viewers to interact with the figures and imagery in the paintings up close, to dive into the artist's mind and to dissect the dreamlike world as he blends Eastern and Western cultures, mythological and philosophical imagery.
