Something a little different this month... My talented friend made a video of the snare drum building classes we used to hold in our Sugar Percussion workshop in Santa Cruz, California, proving that, in fact, any Jackass(me) can, indeed, build a world class instrument.
For a couple of years we would invite 4 unsuspecting victims into the woodshop and teach them our neurotic ways of turning chunks of wood into musical instruments. A furiously paced 3 days would take the students from the lumberyard to the shop, through all the tools and hardware, and finally send them home with a world class instrument they made with their own hands.
These classes were so much fun. The smiles on peoples' faces when they played the instruments they made were always contagious. Such a joy. I still can't believe they paid money to listen to me talk nonstop for 72 hours.
Just a little glimpse into one of the things that happen in this little workshop.
As always, thank you for watching.
