Join Acrylic Arts Academy for a relaxing, beginner-friendly tutorial—paint a stunning snowy mountain landscape with lush green hills and shimmering water reflections! This step-by-step acrylic lesson will help you build your skills and confidence, even if you’re brand new to painting.
Step-by-Step Painting Process:
Background Blending: Squeeze sky blue, titanium white, sap green, and viridian directly onto the canvas. Use a wet flat brush to blend in horizontal strokes, creating a soft, natural transition from sky to landscape.
Mountains: With a small flat brush and grey/black paint, create mountains in the upper half. Tallest on the edges, smallest in the center for visual balance.
Snow Highlights: Use thick titanium white and a palette knife or the edge of your brush to add snowy highlights to the mountain tops.
Greenery: Paint a second, lower mountain layer with black. Gently blend in sap green and light green to suggest summer foliage.
Water Reflections: Use a dry brush to softly drag down sap green, black, and white into the lower half for mirrored mountain reflections. Add snowy reflection with white in the middle.
Water Movement: With a palette knife, scrape horizontal lines in black and white to create ripples and sparkling water effects.
Birds: Use a fine detailing brush and black paint to add a few flying birds in the sky for a lively touch.
Materials List:
8x10” stretched cotton canvas
Acrylic Paints: Sky blue, Titanium white, Sap green, Viridian, Grey mid, Lamp black, Light green
Brushes: Flat brush (2.5” & ½”), Small flat brush, Fine detailing brush, Palette knife
Cup of water, palette, paper towels
