Tech Tip Tuesday: DIY 14” Snare EMAD
.
.
.
The Evans EMAD kick and tom-tom drum head is world-renowned for being a go-to option for drummers of all styles.
According to Evans, what is special about this drum headline is the externally Mounted Adjustable Damping system that allows the player to adjust attack and focus via the foams provided.
If you didn’t know, the EMAD drum head comes in 16”, 18”, 20”, 22”, 24”, and 26” sizes, but the 14” version of this drum head doesn’t exist.
Naturally, when I saw the guys over at @SoundsLikeADrum do this a couple of months ago, I knew I had to try it out.
For their experiment, they used two single-ply drum heads. One drum head had a coating, and the other was clear. foam.
In addition, they used the foam ring you get in a 16” EMAD that perfectly fits the circumference of a 14” drum head.
In my example, I used the drum head I had on this snare drum (Remo CS X) and stacked a hollowed two-ply head (Emperor Clear) with the foam ring placed in between the two drum heads.
This experiment tunes up quickly, so if you give this a try, make you keep in mind how much you are tensioning this combination.
This DIY EMAD was such a fun experiment, and I hope this encourages you guys to try this out too.
What do you guys think? Have you ever given this drum hack a try? What did you think of the results? Leave a comment. Let’s talk about it!
Stay creative, and have a great rest of the week. Love you, guys!! Okay. Byeeeee. ????????❤️
