Delusional? Maybe.
But sometimes that’s exactly what you need to improve.
I’m working on the Kodály Sonata, which is easily one of the most difficult pieces ever written for cello. The double stops, the jumps, the control it demands—it will humble you in seconds.
But here’s the thing:
If you only attempt the things that feel “doable”… you won’t grow.
You have to be just a little delusional to try something truly great.
???? Here’s what I’ve learned from practicing impossible things:
✅ Don’t run it top to bottom. Break it into 2–3 measure chunks.
✅ Set 1–2 goals per practice session (like: “secure that shift” or “clean bow start”)
✅ Record yourself more than you think you should. The mic doesn’t lie.
✅ Slow = smart. I play passages at 50% tempo before I even touch full speed.
✅ Write it down. Track what you’re fixing, and what still needs attention.
If it’s in your head, it’s already forgotten.
And most importantly:
You don’t need to play Kodály to apply this mindset.
You just need structure, clarity, and a plan you can actually stick to.
That’s why I created the Fast-Track Cello Mastery Vault—
it’s the system I wish every cellist had.
