Here’s a behind the scenes look at what goes in to creating the special edition Hands Up kinetic sculpture. Inspired by the hands up emoji (This one ????), I wanted to create a mechanical sculpture using a barrel cam. The cam is powered by paddle actuated bevel gears. As the barrel turns, it lifts the slider, pushing on the arms, lifting the hands up and down in celebration. The barrel cam has a flat spot at the top of the profile so the hands can remain in the celebratory position at all times.

I will only ever make 20 of these sculptures. If you want one and you’re not part of the original 20, you’re going to have to find someone with an original and fight them.
