Transcript:

My name is Prue Stevenson and I make artwork about celebrating autistic culture through paintings, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, installation, performance and sensory pleasures.

‘Expend’ is a painting made by dipping black paint on my feet and axe kicking a white canvas while focusing on technique, breathing and the expression of energy. The performance is an act of self-regulation and the painting is the residue of energy transferred onto the canvas through my feet, breathwork and voice. This work is my self-regulating work in practice, instead of having a meltdown from emotional overload ‘Expend’ allows me to get the excess energy out of my body. At its core, its intention is to open the dialogue around the taboo subject of self-regulation, about all the ways it can be practiced safely for the self and for others.

‘Adaptation’ re-opened on the 1st of June 2020. For more information about our exhibitions and to read about the artworks in the artist’s own words, head to our website www.casulapowerhouse.com
