This weekend, Grammy-nominated musician and Pulitzer Prize finalist Andy Akiho will pay tribute to Japanese American artist Jun Kaneko's decades-long career with a West Coast premier of “Sculptures” at downtown Portland's Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. "Sculptures" is the percussionist’s recent nine-track record, which was created using Kaneko’s larger-than-life ceramic structures and was co-commissioned by the Oregon Symphony.

“I want the listeners to take away their own experience. You can't try to force a particular feeling or a way to interpret his pieces or my music,” Akiho says. “I want everybody to create their own narrative and not try to force anything on them. I believe it's a personal experience for each audience member.”
