Pour le projet DEEP SIX, le duo d’artistes Beatrijs Albers & Reggy Timmermans s’intéresse à 6 objets en lien direct avec l’environnement de la vitrine dans laquelle ils exposent. Ces derniers sont traités de sorte que leur représentation première – celle que l’humain s’en fait – cède place à leur nature propre.

La matière dont ils sont composés se révèle, les interactions entre les objets sont insolites, le regard de l’observateur est perturbé. Les artistes créent ainsi un nouvel écosystème au sein de l’espace d’exposition et bousculent la vision habituelle des choses. L’être humain, habituellement placé au centre, change de place. La hiérarchie est bouleversée.

Reggy Timmermans & Beatrijs Albers questionnent ainsi l’influence de l’être humain en cette période de l’anthropocène dans laquelle les dualismes de la pensée moderne – sujet/objet, nature/culture, corps/esprit – sont source de toutes les discriminations et exploitations possibles.

Voor het project DEEP SIX focust het kunstenaarsduo Beatrijs Albers & Reggy Timmermans zich op 6 objecten die een directe link hebben met de omgeving van de vitrine waarin ze de voorwerpen tentoonstellen. De voorwerpen worden op zo’n manier bewerkt dat hun primaire voorstelling – met name deze die de mens ervan maakt – plaats maakt voor hun eigen aard.

De materie waaruit ze zijn gemaakt komt tevoorschijn, de interactie tussen de objecten is ongewoon en de blik van de toeschouwer verstoord. De kunstenaars creëren een nieuw ecosysteem binnen de tentoonstellingsruimte en halen de gebruikelijke visie op de dingen overhoop. De mens – doorgaans het centrum van alles – verandert van plaats. De hiërarchie wordt omgegooid.

Reggy Timmermans & Beatrijs Albers stellen de invloed van de mens in vraag in deze periode van het Antropoceen waarin de dualismen van het moderne denken – subject/object, natuur/cultuur, lichaam/geest – de bron zijn van alle mogelijke discriminaties en uitbuitingen.

Reggy Timmermans & Beatrijs Albers present the project DEEP SIX at CENTRALE | vitrine (28.04 - 12.06.2022). Timmermans & Albers are multidisciplinary artists who work with installation, sculpture, video and photography.

For their project DEEP SIX, the duo of artists Beatrijs Albers & Reggy Timmermans focus on six objects which are in relation to the context and environment of CENTRALE | vitrine. The objects are treated in such a way that their primary, original representation – the one made by humans – gives way to their very own physiological qualities.

The material of which these objects are made is revealed; the interactions between the objects are unusual; the observer’s gaze gets disturbed. With this work process, the artists create a new ecosystem within the exhibition space and shake up the way we usually perceive things. The central place of the human being is questioned, the usual hierarchy is turned on its head.

Reggy Timmermans & Beatrijs Albers have decided to question the impact of Man in this period of the Anthropocene, in which the dualisms of modern thought – subject/object, nature/culture, body/spirit – are the sources of all possible discrimination and exploitation.
