Ryan Hall w @alaskasmallcraftadventures Takes us Kenai River Trout Fishing down Alaska’s Upper Kenai River—from the Russian River Ferry to Jim’s Landing—was supposed to be all about exploring new water, catching trout, and soaking in the scenery. But what we found was something completely unexpected. The salmon run this year was massive… so big that it’s actually changing the river itself.
Every bend revealed more — thousands of spawning and dead salmon stacked in the shallows, trout that were already full and refusing to feed, and the unmistakable signs of what happens when a river gets too much of a good thing.
We still hooked into some beautiful rainbow trout and Dolly Varden, and even lost what might’ve been a true trophy. But between the incredible views, the chaos of the salmon run, and the strange balance of nature at work, this float turned into a story we didn’t see coming.
Join us on this first-time float through one of Alaska’s most beautiful and unpredictable stretches of water — the Upper Kenai River.
