"This sculpture for me, it's a simple question: what is balance? What makes balance happen? And it is the question of what holds all of these structures together."

6. Various of Nafisi using angle grinder on sculpture
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Abdollah Nafisi, artist:
"There are opposite forces always working in balance. There is dark and there is light and there's different forces in tension. But I think it's observing and seeing all of it together is what creates the balance within me. Seeing the structure, seeing those fluidities and the movements and my dark side, maybe my shadows, understanding my own shadows and acknowledging them."

8. Various of Nafisi filing sculpture
9. Various of Nafisi fitting part of sculpture into place
10. SOUNDBITE (English) Abdollah Nafisi, artist:
"What an artist does is done when the piece is finished. Talking about the work... If I could talk about it, I would write about it. And that would be it. I'd be a writer. I couldn't talk about it, therefore I made it. I couldn't tell you how I feel about balance, therefore I tried to create balance. Balance doesn't come easy, that balance comes through challenge and this piece is a lot of challenge."

17. SOUNDBITE (English) Fatos Ustek, curator, Frieze Sculpture Park:
"Today we are really going through quite strenuous times in the whole world. It is not specific to the UK or it's not specific to the Western world, but the whole world with the polycrises and everything happening at various scales and accelerating speeds and pace. So I wanted this year's edition to also be an invitation for the visitors alike to come to the park and not only kind of explore their shadows that are cast onto the landscape, but also metaphorically from literature, from psychogeographies, to look at their shadow selves. What is it that they are actually not really wanting to see, avoiding?"

22. SOUNDBITE (English) Fatos Ustek, curator, Frieze Sculpture Park:
"Working in the public realm overcomes the threshold fear that perhaps many institutions, galleries, and fairs induce in a wider group and wider society. And for me, it is very important that Regent's Park is very centrally located in London, and it is open to everyone, to families, to people who come for a first date or celebrate birthday parties. And it is also an happenstance where you come here for one reason, and you might stumble upon an artwork that kind of intrigues you."
