गैंगस्टर से नेता बने अतीक अहमद (Atiq Ahmed) ने बुधवार को दावा किया कि गुजरात के साबरमती केंद्रीय कारागर में उसका उत्पीड़न किया जा रहा है. उसने यह भी दावा किया कि उसका परिवार तो बर्बाद हो गया, लेकिन मीडिया की वजह से वह सुरक्षित है. उत्तर प्रदेश पुलिस की टीम उमेश पाल हत्याकांड के सिलसिले में अतीक को गुजरात के अहमदाबाद शहर में उच्च सुरक्षा वाली साबरमती सेंट्रल जेल से साथ लेकर मंगलवार को सड़क मार्ग से प्रयागराज के लिए रवाना हुई. टीम सुबह पौने सात बजे के आसपास मध्य प्रदेश के शिवपुरी जिले के सुरवाया पुलिस थाने में करीब 20 मिनट के लिए रुकी, जहां मीडियाकर्मियों ने अतीक से सवाल पूछे.उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्व विधायक और लोकसभा सदस्य अतीक ने कहा, ''मेरा परिवार बर्बाद हो गया है. मैं आपकी वजह से सुरक्षित हूं.'' उसने कहा, ''मैंने वहां (जेल के अंदर) से किसी को फोन नहीं किया, क्योंकि वहां जैमर लगाए गए हैं. मैंने कोई साजिश नहीं रची और पिछले छह साल से सलाखों के पीछे हूं.'' जब पत्रकारों ने उससे पूछा कि सरकार ने कहा है कि उसे तबाह कर दिया जाएगा, तो अतीक ने कहा, ''उन्होंने मुझे पहले ही तबाह कर दिया है. मुझे साबरमती जेल में भी परेशान किया जा रहा है.''
