Abraham Poincheval is one of the most radical and committed performance artists working today, known for his extreme feats of solitary confinement that test the limits of the human body and mind. Often described as an explorer of the "inner journey," Poincheval encloses himself in cramped, often bizarre spaces for days or weeks to experience time from a non-human perspective. This video covers his most famous works, including Pierre (Stone), where he lived inside a 12-ton limestone boulder for a week at the Palais de Tokyo; Dans la peau de l'ours (Inside the Skin of a Bear), where he hibernated inside a taxidermy bear for 13 days, subsisting on a diet of worms and beetles; and Œuf (Egg), where he successfully incubated chicken eggs using his own body heat until they hatched. We explore the philosophy behind his endurance art and his quest to dissolve the boundaries between the human, animal, and mineral kingdoms.
