Yawer Ali lives in north Kashmir’s village of Kreeri in the Baramulla district, where life is simple.Yawer comes from a family of well-known Rabab artists Yawer’s family has toured countries like Afghanistan, Peru, Russia, Pakistan, Venezuela and Canada. His family believes that they introduced Rabab in the Kashmir valley. They believe it is their duty to revive the legacy of Sanaullah Bhat, grandfather of Yawar Ali. Despite the odds, Yawer is working hard to bring Rabab to a wider audience. In absence of big venues, live stages and the lack of social and economic support the survival of artists is difficult. What keeps them going is their resilience and often a hope for a better future. A future with more music. And less, silence!
