Héritière des légendaires Siti Ben Saad et Bi Kidude, Siti Amina est la grande chanteuse de taarab moderne de Zanzibar (Tanzanie). Issue de la célèbre Dhow Countries Music Academy (où elle enseigne désormais) elle a emmené avec elle un groupe de jeunes musiciens qui renouvellent ce genre musical créé à la fin du 19ème siècle pour les cours des Sultans arabes de Zanzibar. Sa voix ourlée peut se faire revendicative quand il s’agit des droits des femmes, ou revenir caresser la prose des sentiments amoureux. Siti and the Band est donc un savant mélange d’instruments et de rythmes de la côte swahili, entre Afrique, océan Indien et musiques arabes, là où le pouvoir de la transe rencontre le raffinement du oud et du qanun. Siti and the Band est comme Zanzibar, un bijou musical posé sur un océan de rythmes.

Heiress to the legendary Siti Ben Saad and Bi Kidude, Siti Amina is the great modern taarab singer from Zanzibar (Tanzania). A graduate of the famous Dhow Countries Music Academy (where she now teaches), she has brought with her a group of young musicians who are renewing this musical genre created at the end of the 19th century for the courts of the Arab Sultans of Zanzibar. Her hemmed-in voice can take on a protesting role when it comes to women's rights, or return to caressing the prose of amorous feelings. Siti and the Band is a skilful blend of instruments and rhythms from the Swahili coast, where the power of trance meets the refinement of the oud and qanun. Siti and the Band is like Zanzibar, a musical jewel set on an ocean of rhythms.
