An Australian actress whose son died by suicide has farewelled her “best mate” and vowed to dedicate her life to campaigning against bullying.
The 13-year-old Sydney boy was farewelled in a funeral service at Mary Immaculate Church in Waverley this morning after last month taking his own life.
Mourners dressed in all black fought back tears as they watched footage of Atreyu cuddling his mum, actress Clare McCann, and whispering “I love you”, singing her songs and proudly posing in his black suit and bow tie arm in arm at her red carpet events.
Australian actress Clare McCann has farewelled her 13-year-old son after he took his own life following months of relentless bullying at school.
Atreyu McCann was remembered as a creative and generous soul at a moving ceremony at Waverley's Mary Immaculate Church in Sydney's eastern suburbs on Monday.
Friends and family packed the church to watch in silence as footage played of Atreyu playing music, singing, and standing proudly beside his mother at red carpet events.
Like his mother, an acclaimed journalist, filmmaker and actress best known for her starring role in the Channel V series Blog Party, Atreyu had artistic aspirations.
In his short career, he won two drama awards and played roles in US documentary series Deadly Women and Benefited, a series written and directed by his mother.
Friends and family wiped away tears as Ms McCann approached the pulpit, letting out a long, shaky breath before sharing stories of her lost 'best friend'.
'You were the most intelligent, funniest and talented person I've ever known,' she said as her voice struggled to contain her emotion.
Last month Australian actress Clare McCann begged for help following the death of her son Atreyu, who died aged 13.
Best known for appearing in the Channel [V] shows Blog Party and Clublife, Clare shared that her son had died by suicide after ‘months of relentless bullying’.
Soon after she asked for support to ‘help me preserve his life’ and shared a link to a fundraiser, explaining she wanted to ‘allow him to live again’ with cryonics – the practice of freezing an individual who has died with the aim of reviving them sometime in the future.
Actress Clare McCann has shared a deeply moving moment as she bids farewell to her young son, who tragically died after being bullied at school. In a poignant tribute, Clare was photographed placing a tender kiss on her son’s coffin, capturing the raw grief and heartbreak of a mother losing her child to cruelty.
The young boy’s death has sparked widespread outrage and calls for stronger anti-bullying measures in schools. Clare’s public farewell has touched many, highlighting the devastating impact of bullying on families and communities. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
