So what does the Bible actually say an angel looks like? It’s not straightforward because there are multiple encounters of different heavenly “creatures” that could all be classified as an “angel.” In some instances, they are indistinguishable from humans (Genesis 19)—elsewhere, they are described as “whirling wheels” covered with eyes (Ezekiel 10:12-13)—and in others, there is no visual description at all (Matthew 1:20, Luke 1:30). As mentioned in the video, I decided to base this model off the creatures described in Ezekiel 1:4-14, sometimes referred to as the “cherubim.”
But at the end of the day, the Bible just tells us what God wants us to know, and what exactly an “angel” looks like is not a focus. Instead, the angels’ purpose is to serve and praise the Lord. As terrifying and powerful as these creatures are, they worship and point towards an even more powerful being: “Day and night they never stop saying: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.’” (Revelation 4:8)
