4 levels of Travis Picking revealed ????
The beauty of Travis Picking? It lets you play lead melodies while fingerpicking chords like a one-person band.
Seriously, it’s pure magic. ????
These are the four levels of Travis Picking as I teach it to my students—and trust me, it works.
1️⃣ Static thumb + index finger
2️⃣ Alternating thumb + index finger
3️⃣ Alternating thumb + index/ring fingers
4️⃣ Alternating thumb + index/ring fingers + lead melody
When I first stumbled on this sound, it took me forever to figure out. I’d listen to legends like John Prine and Bob Dylan and think, “How the hell do they make it sound like three guitars?”
Fast forward to today—I’ve broken it down into a step-by-step process that gets my students from no fingerpicking experience to mastering Step 4 in just a few weeks.
And for the first time ever, I’m teaching this inside the Folk Guitar MasterClass...
A 10-week program designed to take you from an unspecialized beginner to a highly-stylized folk/singer-songwriter guitarist.
You’ll master the 5 Pillars of Folk Guitar:
???? Expressive pick strumming
???? Folk ornamentation
???? Folk chord voicings
???? Travis picking/fingerstyle
???? Expressive finger strumming
Break out of the beginner’s box and play like your singer-songwriter heroes by mastering the techniques that matter most—without any guesswork.
