► Tesla Giga Berlin seems eager to get up and running and start producing Tesla Model Y this year. Recent photos of the Giga Berlin scene show at least 33 locally-produced 2022 Tesla Model Y cars parked on the facility’s grounds. Local Giga Berlin observer Tobias Lindh reported that 12 Model Y were taken away a few days earlier, and 33 more were parked at Gigafactory Berlin on Wednesday.
Recently, Lindh discovered three New Model Y vehicles, which seem to use Giga Berlin’s three color options, namely Deep Crimson Multicoat, Abyss Blue Multicoat, and Mercury Silver Metallic. There were also black and white cars among the Model Y 2.0 parked at Giga Berlin. These colors were leaked through Tesla’s mobile app in October 2021.
The Tesla Model Y 2022 parked at Giga in Berlin is likely to be a test production unit.
► According to Tesla News, a recent update implemented on the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y 2022 online owner’s manual hints at upcoming upgrades for both mass-market vehicles. With the update, the climate control section of the 2022 Model 3 and Model Y manuals now reference ventilated seats, as the document now states that the vehicle’s seats have heating and cooling.
Although ventilated seats are one of the differences between the flagship Model S sedan and Model X SUV and the mainstream Model 3 and Model Y, Tesla does tend to introduce some of the features of its flagship models to its mass-market cars. Tesla Model Ys built at the two new plants are expected to use front and rear giant castings, while those built in Giga Texas are expected to use Tesla’s custom 4680 cell structural battery pack.
► This has become even more apparent in the past few days as shipments from Chinese solar panel giant LONGi Green Energy have been spotted on the roofs of Tesla new Model Y and Cybertruck production facility. Interestingly enough, reports from Chinese media outlets about Longi’s Giga Texas contract included a rather interesting tidbit about the facility’s potential start of operations.
As noted in the Yicai Global Report, LONGi Green Energy will provide solar panels for the roof of the Gigafactory Texas.
► In November last year, Pepsi-Cola CEO Ramon Laguarta said in an interview with CNBC that his company is looking forward to delivering the Tesla Semi for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2021. According to reports, in preparation for the arrival of Tesla Semis, the electric car manufacturer has begun to install several Megachargers at Pepsi’s factory in Modesto California. Expectations are high that the Semi will use Tesla’s new 4680 battery, which was unveiled at Battery Day. Tesla’s 4680 batteries ramp has shown some encouraging signs and was recently spotted at a Model Y testing facility in Giga Texas, which appears to have room for a structural Tesla battery pack. If Tesla is able to launch the Semi this year with a limited number of 4680 cells, it could be another milestone for the company and its battery production aspirations.
