1959 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe
The year is 1959 in the USA, Eisenhower is president, Rock and Roll music dominates the radio waves and the Russians just sent a couple of monkeys into space. You drive past the local Cadillac Dealership late one night and sitting there in the front window, is the new 1959 Cadillac series 62 Coupe. A car that looks like a freaking space ship!
Cadillac is a name that is notorious for being the epitome of US luxury cars through the 50s and 60s. The 1959 year model is undoubtedly the most iconic Cadillac ever produced. It was the peak of the “big fins” era and to this day remains among the biggest fins ever put on any car. The “Jetsons” style, space race inspired rocket ship styling extends the entire way through the design of the car and it was packed with more luxury features than anything the world had seen at the time.
This particular car was imported into Australia approximately nine years ago and has had only two owners since arriving into the country. The paintwork is nice on the car and while it is older, it is in good condition and shines brightly. The body work is straight and solid through out and would be best described and a very nice driver quality car. The factory Brenton Blue paint scheme really suits the lines of the car and looks great offset against the wide white wall tyres. The sheer amount of chrome and stainless trims on these cars is a sight to behold. The chrome on this example has been refinished and is in very good condition all round. The car is very original all round and even has the factory trunk lining still in place.
Under the bonnet is the factory 390ci V8 engine paired with the original 4 speed hydro-matic automatic transmission. The car glides nicely down the road like you would expect a Cadillac to do. The driving experience is enhanced by power steering and power brakes.
The factory style interior, again in Blue, is in good condition all round with no rips or tears. The dash is beautifully laid out and in fantastic condition. Inside there are a number of cool options including the Autronic Eye and power windows which all function as they should. There is plenty of room for the whole family with bench seats front and back. Visibility is fantastic thanks to the slim pillars all round virtually eliminating blind spots.
Overall, the car can be described as a very original, high quality driver car. Many of these Caddy’s in the market are old and run down and this one is certainly not that. It’s most at home cruising down open roads and freeways. It certainly presents very well for a car of it’s age and you can see the vehicle has been well maintained and clearly loved by its owners. Nice 1959 Cadillac coupes rarely become available on the market and are highly sought after by collectors worldwide. A great entry into a very nice example of one of the most iconic luxury classic cars of all time!
