SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Tuesday, September 30, 2025 — Santa Monica Chief of Police Darrick Jacob joined neighbors at Hotchkiss Park for “Pizza with a Cop,” a community event designed to strengthen ties between residents and law enforcement.

Neighbors shared pizza with police officers, exchanged greetings, asked questions, and voiced concerns in an informal setting. Officers engaged directly with community members, continuing a national initiative that emphasizes face-to-face conversations as a way to build trust and foster open communication.

Chief Jacob’s presence underscored the department’s commitment to proactive and transparent community engagement. The event reflected a broader effort to humanize the badge and encourage dialogue outside of enforcement situations.

The “Pizza with a Cop” model follows the success of the “Coffee with a Cop” program, launched in 2011, which has since expanded to all 50 states and to countries including Canada, Australia, and nations across Europe, Africa, and Latin America. The program’s strength has been its simplicity—providing a relaxed environment where officers and residents can connect.
