Anumol RS, better known as Anu, made her debut as an actress through the 2014 serial Aniyathi. Within a few years, she also tried something new on the small screen.
She has been taking part in Star Magic, which is the second season of the popular star game Tamaar Padaar, for quite a few years now. The antics of Anu, the youngest contestant in the show with her comedian-actor teammate Thankachan, is much loved by the audience for its many laugh-out-loud moments. The Thiruvananthapuram native, who is often fondly called Anukutty by other participants, tells us about her career, new projects, dreams and more.
Telling us about her debut, Anu recalls, “It was my brother-in-law’s friend and dubbing artiste Shankar Lal, who guided me to showbiz. From then on, I could be part of many serials and two movies, fulfilling my dream to be an actress.” She is also a graduate in Sanskrit from the University of Kerala.
Star Magic is what worked wonders for her. “Watching others take part in such fun shows, I always wanted to be part of one. Finally, I got a chance through actress Parvathy R Krishna, who referred me to programme producer Anoop John.” Anu confesses she was a shy and sensitive introvert prior to the show. “Though I was thrilled within, I was equally scared as I had to be in games with artistes like Noby, Nelson, Subi, Thankachan, Lekshmi Priya, Naveen and others. But, they were very receptive. The fun on the show reminds you for a wedding house party. Now, I am bold and independent, thanks to the confidence I earned through this show.” She is also happy about becoming a familiar face to the audience through Star Magic. “Viewers often say how I make them laugh and that’s great,” she says.
Anumol is all praise for her game partner Thankachan. Theirs is one of the most loved teams on Star Magic, for leaving the audience in splits with their playfulness. “We are like siblings. I can be free with him, like with an older brother. But when I play, all I care about is giving the game my all to win various rounds. Producer Anoop chettan also gives us a good space to perform and indulge in some witty repartee, just as our scriptwriters Akhil and Guiness Subeesh.”
The show has also given her many friends and fun memories. “It’s on this show that I have laughed the most in my life. The genuine support of our host Lakshmi Nakshatra chechi is also awesome. Though I always have the fear of getting hurt during games, I hope the show never stops,” Anu exclaims.
Anu’s elegant yet funky costumes, which makes her the most stylish on the show, is also much talked about. The youngster reveals she often designs her own attires. “I also stitch many of my own costumes, following new styles. For instance, the jumpsuit I wore on the show was my own creation. I shop alone and even if it takes up to a day, I ensure I zero in on the right dress visiting as many stores, for the show. I love trying new costumes that suit my body type. Our host Lakshmi chechi also is an inspiration for me in fashion,” Anu explains.
For the past few months, she has also been playing the character named Chakki on the sitcom Thatteem Mutteem. “It was Manju chechi (Manju Pillai) who invited me to be on the show after watching me on Tamaar Padaar. Chakki is the naughty cousin of the character named Aadhi, husband of Meenakshi. Audience love Chakki’s Thiruvananthapuram slang and I get great feedback for it on social media and in person.”
Talking about her dreams, Anu says with an innocent smile, “I wish to act in a film with Tovino Thomas. I am also waiting for good film scripts that would let me experiment with my potential,” Anu signs off.
